How did you get started in endurance sports?
I was a competitive swimmer at age 6, and have always been involved in endurance sports since then.
Major Accomplishments(endurance or life):
I have a 6 year old son with Down Syndrome name Evan!
What is your favorite workout (and why)?
I once did 16×100 fly in a yards pool on 1:05 each. It was part of a progressive overload set that took a year to get to. I was proud because I have very few friends/competitors who could ever do that.
What’s the most awesome thing you’ve encountered in nature during a run or ride?
a Manta Ray – it was a swim.
Do you have any superstitions related to competing or training?
I like to make playlists that evoke the right rhythm for my events.
What is your pre-race / warm-up routine?
10-15 min easy swim, 2-400 kick, 2-4 drill, 10×50 build, starts and turns
What gets you most excited to compete?
What gives you an advantage over your competition?
I have confidence in my ability and body. I like to be grateful when I or others may be suffering.
What is something most people don’t know, or would be surprised to learn, about you?
I love to play chess!
What activity most represents ‘me time’ for you?
Reading and watching tv shows like Archer.
What person has most shaped your career or life?
My career- Peter Linn at Eastern Michigan University, My life – My son.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given – and would be eager to pass along to others? Respect the process – everything takes time and steps. No shortcuts.
Why do you workout/race?
To enjoy a happy life – they provide me great pleasure
